It's not a long flight to Berlin, really. Not for a djinni of his considerable power, ability, wit, charm and frequently good looks2. But he may have really taken his time with it so he could think out exactly how he meant to handle this exact moment. The order had been to find and go directly to her; it hadn't said anything about the velocity with which he had to do it. Still, for all that dilly dallying en route and the entire previous afternoon he'd kept conveniently just meters shy of reaching her, he's disappointed to find that he hasn't actually come up with anything.

He settles for stepping inside.

If the small bird had really been trying to make an entrance, it would have flown through the newly open window, raced twice around the old painted light fixture in the middle of the ceiling and finally alighted to one of the bed posts with a single spectacular backwing and the softest click of tiny talons on antique oak. This one hops ungainly to the interior ledge and no farther, its proportionally long wings slightly akimbo.

Finally, it says: "Berlin? At this time of year? Couldn't you picked somewhere a little less miserable?"
2. Present shape and disposition not withstanding.
